Former President Ram Nath Kovind appointed music composer Ilaiyaraaja, athlete PT Usha, Virendra Hegde, father of popular Telugu film director Rajamouli Vijayendra Prasad, as MPs.
In this case, Ilayaraja took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP in Tamil today. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh administered the oath of office to him.

Ilayaraja, who ruled the Tamil film industry for half a century with his music, has made over 1000 films and won 5 National Awards.
The central government honored Ilayaraja, now 79, with the Padma Bhushan award in 2010. After that he was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2018. Presently he has been appointed as Nominated MP.
