Thrown logic hampers the viewing experience

What is the movie about?
Kasi (Naveen Chandra), Madhu (Chandini Chowdary) and Vasu (Rakendu Mouli) are close friends. While Vasu is doing his job, the other two are unemployed. In desperate need of 40 Lakhs to save his home, Kasi resorts to NPL (IPL) betting with the help of Bangarraju (Viva Harsha) and Murali (Praveen). He wins 1.7 Crore, but in order to get the money through Hawala, on that fateful night he runs into several issues with CI Ajay (Ajay) after him.
How are the performances?
Naveen Chandra is a decent actor and he has proven it once again. He plays a role that doesn’t tire or test him. He should look tense for most of the movie, and he does it effortlessly. It’s almost like a single expression and he does what is required of him.
Directed by Praveen Varma?
Late Praveen Varma directed the film. He died in a bizarre traffic accident in the middle of the movie and Sudheer Varma finished it. The title ‘Super Over’ gives us the impression that it is a cricket movie. But it is much less about Cricket. In fact, a small part is about cricket betting and most of the movie is about Money Hawala. The movie has quite a story. It’s all about one night when the three friends go to get the money from Hawala brokers.
The money could not be arranged in one place due to a number of problems and they have to go to different places and in the process she bumps into a corrupt police officer. They face a big problem because of a too clever idea from Kaasi and the idea itself solves all their problems by the end.
The film runs at a good pace from start to finish. The aerial shots, the background score, a chase sequence came out well. But the movie also has some problems. A thriller, especially the one set in a night, has to be gripping enough and have a myriad of twists and turns. The story has a few twists and turns, but most of them we find forced and unreal. Spoiler Alert – The coincidence of the car number, the police easily leave them, burglary in the police house, the police easily contact Hawala people and the latter pass on all the information to him, get the lost Hawala note back, the money gets back to the real owners, etc – too many cinematic liberties have been taken for creating the twists. While the film appears to be running at a good pace, the cinematic freedoms found throughout the film continue to distract audiences and disrupt the viewing experience.
Finally, Super Over has its share of issues that distract the public but are manageable for a digital watch.
Chandini, Rakendu Mouli, Praveen, Ajay and others
The movie has very few characters. It mainly runs on the first trio. Rakendu Mouli is okay as a friend. He tries to be Kaasi’s keeper of conscience, but the latter never would listen. Chandini Chowdary is beautiful and sits in a single costume for most of the movie. This is expected because the film takes place in one night. It’s a no-nonsense character that doesn’t require any kind of skill like her previous outing, Color Photo. She’s fine, you should say. Ajay gets the same villain role he played maybe a million times and that’s okay. Praveen played the character of a bookmaker. It’s not much about his comedic timing and he did everything expected of the character.
Music and other departments?
There are no songs in the movie. The re-recording of Sunny MR has worked tremendously for the movie. The background score boosted the course of events in many places. Diwakar Mani held the camera. Most of the film takes place in a night and that is neatly recorded. Some of the aerial shots and the chase sequence came out very well. The dialogues are decently written, but since it’s OTT and has no issues with censorship, there are too many swear words that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Tollywood filmmaker Sudheer Varma has presented the film. The production values are good. Editing by SR Sekhar is good too.
Decent performance and cast
Good BGM score and aerial shots
Too many cinematic freedoms without logic
Too many repetitive scenes
Twists and turns are a must for any thriller to impress. It is important that they are accompanied by logic. That’s the biggest disappointment at Super Over. If we are going to make corrections on that front, we have to make several changes.
